Writing fiction for teenagers has been a calling since I was a teenager.
Why? Perhaps for reasons of catharsis, fun and passion. Perhaps because as a boy, my Dad often put me to bed making stories up off the top of his head (something I now do with my own children). Perhaps because at age 12, I started writing short stories from prompts at primary school.
Nevertheless, I had not intended to start writing teenage fiction in 2019 as my focus was on my Sustainability Quest. But life happens when you’re making other plans and a mid-year trip to Scotland to visit my brother Kevin reignited the calling with a wander in the gardens and some silly brotherly banter.
It also gave me an idea that grew into a story that wrote itself by pen in notebook after notebook, without any plot planning (most unlike me – but liberating and it helped with creativity).
I hope you enjoy my first work of teenage fiction…
